CrossOver allows you to add new drives to be used by Windows applications, and to change their label or serial number. If youneed to create a new drive or have an application which depends on a serial number or Windows volume label then follow theexamples below.

On October 14, gas prices in Minneapolis and St. Paul fell to $2.79 a gallon, and CodeWeavers honored their pledge giving away their software for free on October 28, 2008. Traffic via Slashdot, Digg, and other sources overloaded and brought down the CodeWeavers website as people rushed to get the free-of-charge software. According to CodeWeavers, "You will be able to unlock your serial number that was emailed to you for an extended time, (an additional 48 hours), due to this downtime. We will simply stop giving out new serial numbers at 23:59 (Midnight) Central Standard Time."[6]
The streamlined process came to pass, but customers were told to expect to wait "several days" to receive their serial number. In the interim, fully unlocked (full builds) of four different CodeWeavers packages became available for immediate download, but only on October 28, 2008.[7]

This will create your codeweavers.com account and attach the activation code to your account. You can also attach the activation code to your account on this webpage( ). In the future if you need to unlock CrossOver you can just use your codeweavers.com email address & password. The activation code is only used once. 7c. Unlocking using a Generated Code "Finally you can visit "My Orders" ( =orders ) and click the Generate CrossOver Linux License button. Unzip the downloaded file, and copy the two license.* files into /opt/cxoffice/etc to unlock CrossOver Linux. Installing the .deb package on Ubuntu, Mint, or Debian Debian based systems 8a.1 Graphical Install Download the CrossOver .deb package from "My Downloads" ( ). Right-click the .deb file and Open With>Gdebi 8a.2 Select GDebi Package Installer if not already selected 8a.3 With the Package Installer open, Install CrossOver. If your distribution doesn't have Gdebi pre-installed, you can do the Terminal Install instead. 8b. Terminal Install (If Gdebi is installed ignore this step and move to step 9.) Using a terminal, navigate to the directory you downloaded crossover.deb to, then install CrossOver using apt: sudo apt install ./crossover.deb 9. After you have successfully installed CrossOver, it should appear in your 'APPLICATIONS' You can now open CrossOver and begin running Windows programs after they are installed on your machine. 10. When installing a program for the first time with CrossOver, it may need to install additional packages in order for your Windows software to run. This is a free utility that is used for editing the registry to ensure the serial number descriptor of each FTDI device is ignored during driver installation. This feature ensures any FTDI device connected to a USB port is given the same COM port number.
Some applications will check for the disc to be in drive. They may check for data only, in which case it might be enough to configure the corresponding path as being a CD-ROM drive in winecfg.However, other applications will look for a name and/or a serial number, in which case the image has to be mounted with these special properties.
On macOS, the name can be tricky for a user to determine since it can vary basedseveral factors. On recent versions of macOS, the devices are likely to be named/dev/cu.usbserial- where the is an identifier for the USBserial adapter, such as a serial number.
The Plugable USB serial adapter allows you to connect legacy devices that use RS232 serial communications to computers that do not have a serial port. Although this usually works well, a number of problems can crop up because many of the devices people want to connect are older devices with various issues. A frequent problem is that the software that is necessary to connect to the device does not work under modern operating systems such as Windows 7 or above. Other problems can include using an improper cable, incorrect port settings, or a basic incompatibility between the Plugable USB serial adapter and the device it is being connected to.
In Windows, serial communications proceed through a COM port that is assigned by Windows when the USB serial adapter is plugged in. You can find out this COM port by opening Device Manager, going to Ports (COM & LTPT) and looking for Prolific USB-to_Serial Comm Port (COM#). The # symbol represents the port number of the COM port assigned by Windows. This port must be set correctly in whatever application is trying to communicate through that port.

All of the Windows emulations on a Mac require that you have a Windows disk and a license key (serial number) for Windows that you are not currently using somewhere else. An old Windows installation disk from an old derelict computer should work. Solar Fire Gold v. 7 or V8 will work on any Windows version from Windows ME and NT onwards, so you can use an old version of Windows with Virtual Box or Parallels.
