The album Tomorrow was released on September 22, 2009. Producers involved in the album included former Fugee Wyclef Jean; RedOne (of recent Lady Gaga fame); plus Sean's original mentor, J. R. Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
Another contributing factor denying children an education? Enriched gender roles. For young boys, they sacrifice an education for labour. For young girls, child marriage is a factor that determines whether they enrol, or even stay, in school. Over 60 million girls around the world are denied an education for simply being a girl. In Sierra Leone, 44% of girls are forced into marriage before the age of 18 while teenage pregnancy is a common reason for young girls to drop out of school.
This year, BUUNSA plans to continue to support the Do It In a Dress cause. So why participate in Do It In a Dress? For me, I'm wearing a school dress because I am privileged to have an education when others are not. It's an opportunity to give a voice to the voiceless and assist in raising money so that young girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda can receive an education to break the cycle of poverty. Education is the key to health, happiness, economic status, and a future to the next generation. We are the link that will join together education and the chance to reduce poverty.
Jemilla Raphael - I'm raising money for Do It In A Dress because I know that somewhere in the world is a girl that has the same talents and goals that I do, however due to custom or circumstance, she has not been educated and encouraged like I have. Education is not a privilege, it is a human right, and promoting the vital importance of education for women and girls everywhere has and will continue to be my passion.
Tarisa Yasin - I am wearing a dress because education, in any form, is an integral aspect of human development. It is an opportunity for someone to gain new skills to that can help that person run a business, to achieve their goals and for a girl to have a chance to help their communities and themselves.
Shinae Haidley - I'll be wearing a school dress this October to help offset the ongoing disadvantage that girls face in the education system. By raising funds to construct better school facilities, launch new education programs and to provide scholarships and health supplies, girls in Uganda and Sierra Leone can have a brighter future.
Your donation to the #doitinadress campaign could assist in building new classrooms to ensure schools are safer for students, provide sanitary products to female students, or equip girls with an education via a One Girl scholarship. 2ff7e9595c
